Research study from Austria on long term benefits of kidney transplant versus dialysis
A new study published this month in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Open Network demonstrated that kidney transplantation provides greater benefit than long-term dialysis, regardless of age or time spent on the waitlist. This study included 4445 patients in Austria who underwent kidney transplantation or received long-term dialysis while on the waitlist. The authors concluded that transplant-eligible patients with kidney failure should not be excluded from transplantation based on age.
