Advocacy Alert

NKF supports bill to help people with CKD manage their weight management.

What it is: The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act currently in Congress will help patients get coverage for consultations with dietitians, physician assistants, and others who can help with their kidney care.

Why it's important: Weight management is especially important for people with Chronic Kidney Disease. Currently Medicare limits which medical professionals can provide services that help patients address and manage their weight.

If this bill is important to you let your federal lawmakers know and ask them to back this bill. You can do this easily via the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Voices for Kidney Health Advocacy webpage here.

Your Fun Tip of the Day!

Start the New Year off right! Wherever you are in life, happy, sad, bored, or tired of the SARS-CoV-2 virus specifically, a new year is a new opportunity to start fresh with new goals. Staying on track to achieve your goals throughout the year can be challenging, this is when getting a coach or taking an educational course can be helpful. There are many coaches with extensive knowledge, experience and their own unique way of communicating. Many of them offer free courses particularly at the beginning of the year and this year is no exception. If you want to improve your personal life, take a business idea to the next level or stay on track with your health, the tools and information that these coaches offer can be useful. You just need to find the one that’s right for you.

Educational Webinars

What it is: TransplantLyfe is a community platform for transplant recipients, care partners, donors, and transplantation experts to share information. In partnership with Columbia University in New York they have created an Educational Webinar Series.

This virtual educational series is focused on late-stage kidney and pancreatic disease. The series features expert speakers who will cover key topics across the journey from late-stage disease to treatment options and long-term management of a transplant. Following every presentation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Each session is recorded and available to be viewed subsequently via the TransplantLyfe platform. A few key webinars are listed below: Living with Chronic Kidney Disease: What are My Options?

Post-Transplantation Surgery: How Do I Manage My New Kidney? Why it’s important to you: Education on where you or your family member are in the journey of living with a chronic kidney disease diagnosis is critically important to help you and your family member make informed decisions.

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!
